Anecdotes

My first anecdote is about when my dad was in high school. He is the youngest in the family. My dad was about 15 years old was new in this country. He pretty much did the same things everyday. He would wake up in the morning around 6 a.m. to get ready for school. After he ate breakfast, he would would to his high school Yerba Buena. He'd get out of school around three and then take two buses to get to work. His first bus took him to Capital and then the second bus took him to Camden Ave. Next he would walk to his work; he worked at the 76 gas station close to Castillero. My started work at 4 p.m. and worked till 9:30 p.m. Then, one of his sisters would pick him up and take him home. He'd get home around 10 p.m. and then he would have to do his homework. So he went to sleep pretty late every school day because he had to work to support his family.

My second anecdote is about when my dad was in college. My dad went to college in hopes of becoming an engineer, but he lasted two years in college. My dad used to work full time at the 76 gas station while going to school. It got hard for him to manage both work and school. He decided to drop out of college because he couldn't give up his job or even work part time for school. My dad had to give up school because he had to work to support his family. His sisters were married and gone, so that left just his parents and him. His parents were too old to work, so he had to be the one to work and make enough money for his family.

My third anecdote is about when my dad was working a two days before Christmas. My dad was a mailman and still is. He started work that day at 6 a.m. It was really cold that day and my dad was going around delivering mail to people. He also had to use a flashlight when it got dark. He came home at 9 p.m. that day because he had to deliver so many letters.

  2. These are good sort of outlines for anecdotes. When you get to the real thing, I'd like to hear specifics- stories about a precise time and place. For example, if you choose the day your dad worked two days before Christmas, tell me how it felt for you to be home waiting for him, and show the conversation you had with him when you came home.
